Montrose 2 Peterhead 0

Montrose moved to within two points of league leaders Cove, albeit with a game more played.
With manager Stewart Petrie and his assistant Ross Campbell both absent due to Covid issues, coaches Iain Campbell and Tony Bullock took charge of the side on an ideal night for football after the difficult weather conditions of recent weeks.
The Gable Endies took the lead after just 5 minutes when ANDREW STEEVES, at the back post, headed home a corner from Liam Callaghan on the right.
Jason Brown hit the post for Peterhead on the 21 minute mark before the ball was bundled into the net, however the whistle had gone for a foul to the home side.
Just minutes later Cammy Ballantyne of Montrose was booked for a foul on the left but Aaron Lennox fisted the free kick clear.
With 29 minutes on the clock, a Montrose clearance was picked up by Mulligan whose shot was saved by Lennox and minutes later the Peterhead player found himself in the book for a heavy challenge on halfway.
Minutes later, a defensive miskick put Lyall Cameron through but his first touch was poor and the ball ran out for a goal kick.
On 42 minutes, a shot from Mulligan missed to the keeper’s right before Ryan Duncan replaced Savoury.
In the opening minutes of the second half Graham Webster fired over after good work by Lyons before, minutes later, Cammy F Ballantyne shot narrowly past.
Peterhead were looking more determined as the second half progressed, pressing forward in search of an equaliser but this simply gave Montrose more opportunities when they surged forward and Blair Lyons had a shot blocked by Long on 64 minutes.
Montrose appeared to have made the game safe in 75 minutes when a Steeves shot from the left was turned into the net by BLAIR LYONS.
A Peterhead free kick was met by Jason Brown but his header was comfortably tipped over the bar by Lennox.
On 85 minutes Danny Strachan was lucky to escape with yellow card following a hefty tackle. Several more reckless challenges escaped unpunished before Cammy Ballantyne was ordered off for a second yellow in time added on.
The Blue Toon men worked hard without making many clear cut chances and the Gable Endies winning run continues to keep the pressure on the league leaders.
