Stirling Albion 2 Montrose 1

A much changed side started for Montrose with Fleming, Yano Campbell, McCormick, Ross Campbell, Quinn, Callaghan, Johnston, Leslie, Hawke, Milne, Rennie. Referee was Peter Stuart.

A slow start which almost sparked into life after 5 minutes for Stirling but an alert linesman spotted it had gone out of play. Johnston then tried his luck with a snap shot having created space for himself but the effort was just too high.

The Binos are unbeaten in the league so full of confidence and Fleming did well twice in the first 15 minutes although the second effort looked offside though not given. Play switched to the other end as Yano Campbell slotted a great ball down the left for Rennie who squared across the box for LEWIS HAWKE to smash it home and give the Mo a 1-0 lead on 20 minutes.

Stirling had the edge in terms of possession and still have a chance of progress in the Betfred Cup. A series of corners were dealt with by Montrose or squandered by Stirling until SEAN HEAVER latched onto a poor clearance, and it was volleyed in from 15 yards to make it 1-1 on 34 minutes.

Spurred on by that success Stirling piled on the pressure and took a 2-1 lead on 40 minutes as DYLAN MACKIN got on the end of a back header in the centre of the box and volleyed in to give Fleming no chance. At 2-1 down Montrose had work to do.

No changes for the second half but Ross Campbell saw yellow for apparently disputing a refereeing decision and from the free kick McGeachie should have done better with his header which went wide.

Rennie found good space at the other end but the final ball to him was overhit and the chance went begging. Banner for Stirling was lucky only to see a yellow card on 52 minutes as a deliberate handball stopped Rennie who was otherwise clear in on goal.

On the hour mark Mo made a triple substitution bringing on McLean, Cammy F and Watson for Hawke, Milne and Callaghan. That brought more experience to the side and with 30 minutes to go the game was still in the balance. Two quick corners for the Mo ended with McLean seeing his shot scrambled away at the foot of the post.

Then another change for Montrose on 69 minutes with McCormick off and Jack Rollo on. Roberts missed a great chance to increase the Binos lead on 75 minutes with a clear shot on goal but he delayed and his effort was deflected for a corner. Stirling made a double change on 79 minutes as they wound down the clock, in fact keeper Binnie was yellow carded for time wasting.

The 90 minutes were all but up as McLean almost snatched the equaliser with a header which Binnie did wonders to keep out at the foot of the post but as Stirling made another change on 91 minutes the final piece of action was a 25 yarder from Paul Watson which again was pushed away at the last gasp by Binnie.
