GOALS & GABLE ENDS - A History of Montrose FC
This Saturday sees the launch of a new publication all about our beloved Club by local author Forbes Inglis.
The book charts the history of Montrose FC from its founding in 1879 right up to the end of last season which culminated in the Gable Endie’s successful retention of a place in League 2 of the SFPL.
As a former Director, Secretary and Chairman of Montrose FC, Forbes has lived and breathed the Gable Endies for most of his life and, from the moment his father joined the Club’s Board in the mid 1950s, he was probably destined to write this book.
In Goals and Gable Ends he tells the story of the Gable Endies and their almost continual fight to survive financially and their long quest for full League status, a position that was imperilled last season when Montrose found themselves in the inaugural pyramid play-off.
Forbes also describes how one of the Club’s international players had his success attributed to someone else, writes about a betting scandal and explains the connection between the burgh of Montrose and Russian football.
There have been golden moments too, with the Forfarshire Cup won on several occasions, success in the Qualifying Cup, a League Championship and victories over some of the top teams in national competitions.
The book, priced £14, will be launched at Links Park on Saturday, prior to the Stirling Albion match and Forbes will be on hand to personally sign any copies purchased.
A must have for every Montrose fan.
