Mighty Mo Donate Artificial Pitch to Local Youths
Bob McCombie, Chairman of Montrose Youth said, “We are extremely grateful for this very kind donation by Montrose FC and it will go a long way to improving the facilities we provide for our youngsters. We are a very active club and with 13 teams at ages from 8 to 17 years, including 3 girls teams, we are one of the biggest youth setups on the east coast of Scotland. The demand for floodlit winter training is therefore high and at present we only have a grass surface under the lights at Kenny Park, which can quickly become unplayable. Converting this to an all weather surface will make a huge difference to so many of our kids.
Derek Sim, Chairman of Montrose FC added, “We are delighted to see our old pitch go to such a worthy cause. We had been trying to sell it on, but it was proving both impractical and time consuming so instead we decided to make the offer to Montrose Youth. In the end it made sense that our turf should support the development of grass roots football in the town.
“We already have a good relationship with the club as not only do they use Links Park for some of their training and matches, they also provide us with Ball Boys and Girls for all our home games.
“I am sure our local residents will be delighted too, as the rolls of turf and bags of infill have become a bit of an eyesore in our car park since the pitch was lifted back in June.”

Captain Recovering After Groin Surgery
Club Captain Paul Watson underwent surgery last week to repair the groin injury that has kept him out of action recently.
Paul said "The operation last Thursday, for the condition known as Gilmour's Groin, was fairly straight forward and went well. I was out of hospital the following morning and since then I have been at home recovering and starting my rehab exercises."
Overall recovery is expected to be around a month and Paul hopes to be running again by next week, building back up to full fitness and being ready for selection again by mid-October.
It goes without saying that all at the Club wish him a speedy recovery.
In the absence of Jordan Millar due to shoulder injury which might take a further four weeks to heal, Montrose have called upon a couple of trialist keepers in the last two matches. On the bench against Elgin City was Sandy Wood a familiar face at Links Park having three spells with the club prior to his departure to Arbroath in January 2014. Last season Sandy played for Cove Rangers in the Highland League. With Sandy unavailable against Stirling Albion it was the turn of another former Arbroath goalkeeper Scott Morrison to take his seat on the bench. Scott is currently playing for amateur side Drymen United.

Gable Endies Go Continental With Latest Signing
The 22 year old midfielder previously played for Spanish 3rd National Division side Cultural Durango and Hegarty admits to having been impressed with what he’s seen so far of the youngster. Paul said, “Adrian has looked good in training and comes with the natural ability you expect from a kid who has grown up within Spanish football. He played in a friendly match recently and acquitted himself very well both in a wide role and in central midfield. He will be a great addition to the squad.”
Before moving to Durango in 2011, Adrian spent two years with Athletic Bilbao U19's during which time he won the Cup of Spain. Last season he scored nine goals for Durango, who reached the promotion play-offs.
Adrian has come to the UK to improve his English and further his studying in Business Management. His new Links Park team mates aim to have him speaking proper English in no time!
The Grass Really Is Greener For The Mighty Mo!
With the previous pitch having come to the end of its natural life the League 2 side were faced with financing a new state of the art surface during the close season.
Club Chairman Derek Sim (pictured left) explained, "We are delighted to have secured this grant and very grateful that the Scottish Football Partnership are prepared to support our Club.
In handing over the cheque, Stuart McCaffrey, Chief Operating Officer said, "We are about supporting football at all levels in Scotland and we look to help professional clubs with projects that are linked to National Club Licensing.
"We were more than keen to support the project here at Links Park as not only does it help the first team but it also helps with the great work they do in the community.
"I hope the new surface serves the Club well and delivers huge benefits."
The new pitch, which in total cost the Club over £100,000 uses the latest technologies and was provided and laid by German sports company Polytan, one of the leading international suppliers of synthetic turf. The Ligaturf RS+ Coolplus 240 World Cup Edition surface has a 40mm pile with over 100,000 blades per square metre and the green infill is the same as that used in the Bern Stadium.
“The pitch really has given the club a new lease of life. It looks great, it plays great and we have started the season with three home wins. Attendances are up so our fans must be enjoying the new pitch too which is all helping to create a positive and buoyant atmosphere."

Hegarty Makes Sixth Local Signing
The 20 year old midfielder spent four years in the Dundee FC youth system under the then Head of Youth John Holt, before signing for Montrose U17's in 2012. Last year he left the Gable Endies and signed for Highland League outfit Cove Rangers and played in their league winning U20's side.
Adam is already a well know face at Links Park as his day job sees him coaching youngsters with Links Park Community Trust.
Adam's contract is initially until the end of January and brings the number of Hegarty signings from Angus and the Mearns to six following Terry Masson, Ryan Ferguson, Dale Reid, Jordan Reoch and Kyle McLeod.
Mo Take Loon On Loan
Montrose FC have signed Gavin Malin on loan from fellow Angus club Forfar Athletic. The 27 year old, talented midfielder joins the Gable Endies until January as Manager Paul Hegarty looks to add experience to his new squad.
Malin joined the Loons in 2012 and has scored eight goals in his 56 appearances. Having begun his career in England with West Lancashire Premier Division side Blackpool Wren Rovers, Gavin joined Lowland League outfit Spartans in 2007. An important player for the Ainslie Park side, Malin netted 63 times in his 141 appearances.
In 2012, Gavin had two short stints with first Kendal Town and then Blackpool Wren Rovers before returning north to play for the Loons and recently featured in the League Cup tie against Hearts.
Gavin was also an ever present in the Great British University side that reached the final of the World University Games in Kazan in 2013.
Ex Gable Endies On The Move
During the close season a number of former Links Park players were on the move goalkeeper Andy Reid (pictured left) joined Garry Wood and Jonathan Crawford in making the summer move to Formartine United. Two other former Montrose goalkeepers Andy McNeil and David Crawford both made the move to Alloa Athletic. Kyle Benedictus who had a short loan spell at Montrose has moved to Raith Rovers. Midfielder Craig McLeish is back in senior football with Queen’s Park after a brief stint with East Kilbride. Calum Smith and fellow striker Scott Gates have both moved to league champions Kelty Hearts. Martin Boyle signed a two year contract with Hibernian after turning down the offer of a one year deal with Dundee. Martin is currently recovering from a knee operation but made a five minute appearance for Hibernian at Dumbarton last Saturday. Five players who left Links Park have found new clubs with Craig Johnston (Brechin City), Bryan Deasley (Lochee United), Ewan Moyes (Bonnyrigg Rose), David Banjo (Berwick Rangers) and Ross Graham (Berwick Rangers) on the move.
Paul Hegarty had hoped to keep hold of forward and play off final goal scoring hero Garry Wood but the club captain chose to move to Highland League side Formartine United. Wood will be joined at Pittmedden by central defender Jonathan Crawford who moves there after over 125 games for Montrose since his arrival from Aberdeen in 2010. Crawford ended the season with four trophies including Players Player of the Year and Directors Player of the Year.
Goalkeeper Stuart McKenzie has also chosen to move back to the Highland League and he has rejoined his former manager John Sheran at Cove Rangers after a two year spell at Links Park.
Long serving centre half Alan Campbell is also departing the club after over 180 appearances since joining in 2009 from Scone Thistle. A fans favourite Alan will be sadly missed in and around the club.
