Montrose FC are shelling out to provide all their young fans with a free cream egg ahead of their Easter weekend fixture against Airdrieonians at Links Park on Saturday.
Young players Euan Henderson, Chris Antoniazzi and Ryan Harrington were egg-cited to hear the news, which they first thought was a yoke!
Having just secured their place in Ladbrokes League 1 for a second season following last years promotion, Stewart Petrie’s side are now dreaming of a Championship play-off place and the manager is urging the Mo faithful to turn out in numbers to support the boys.
Stewart said, “Our fans have been egg-celent again this year and the players really appreciate their support. We hatched a plan back in August to ensure we avoided the scramble at the bottom of the table and secure our newly earned League 1 status. We are egg-static with how things have panned out so far and the end of the season is coming to the boil nicely.
“The Easter egg giveaway is a great gesture by the Club. I thought it was to everyone but the Chairman told me I was meringue, and that it was only our younger fans!.”
Club Mascot Monty Mole will be on hand just prior to kick off on Saturday, in front of the Bryan Keith Stand to hand out the cream eggs to the kids.
Montrose FC have secured the services of Russell McLean for a further two years, keeping the striker at Links Park until the summer of 2021.
Arriving from Peterhead on Deadline Day back in January with a 6 month contract, the promising youngster was just establishing himself in Stewart Petrie’s League 1 side when injury struck in only his 4th appearance against Airdrieonians at the start of March.
However, the gaffer had seen enough potential to offer the 20 year old a two year extension and the Mo Boss is delighted to have got the new deal over the line.
Stewart said, “I said back in January how excited I was to be bringing Russell to the Club and having now worked with the boy, I am even more excited to see what he can bring to our team.
“He was really unlucky to be injured just as he was settling in, but he is now back, fully fit and will be pushing once again for his place.”
Russell started his career as a youth with Alloa Athletic before getting a move to Hearts. On leaving Tynecastle he joined Lowland League champions East Kilbride Thistle before returning to the senior ranks in 2017 with Peterhead, scoring 17 goals in his 45 appearances last season and netting 6 times this term so far.
