Montrose 2 Elgin City 1

MONTROSE'S  aim to build momentum ahead of the relegation play-off took a step forward with a good win over Elgin City.
Goals from Jordan Allan and Graham Webster gave Montrose the win, with Elgin finding the net only once through Darryl McHardy in reply.
Allan put Montrose ahead in the 33rd minute when a Scott Johnston corner was knocked down by Garry Wood, JORDAN ALLAN blasting his shot into the roof of the net.
Jordan AllanElgin equalised four minutes later when DARYL McHARDY bulleted a header past Stuart McKenzie from a Daniel Moore corner.
But Montrose found a winner in the 69th minute. Garry Wood had a shot blocked by the Elgin City defence, the rebound falling to GRAHAM WEBSTER, who lashed his shot into the net from 12 yards out.
The win was well-deserved for Montrose, who played well throughout the match, with crisp passing and good ball retention.
They were the first to test an opposing goalkeeper, Webster having a 25-yard shot held in the sixth minute. Allan also came close early on, sending an audacious bicycle kick narrowly wide of the post.
The young striker almost turned creator two minutes later when he thumped the ball into the box, but Wood couldn't apply the finishing touch.
Elgin's first real chance came in the 18th minute when Mark Nicholson sent a free kick over the crossbar from 25 yards out.
Graham WebsterAt the other end of the park, Allan had a free kick held by goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw.
Elgin should have taken the lead after half an hour, but Brian Cameron could only blast wide when the ball dropped to him at the back post from a corner.
The second half saw Elgin's Jamie Reid come close from a free kick in the 65th minute, while Wood was unlucky to be denied a goal in the 75th minute. His run through the middle saw the Elgin defence part, but Laidlaw managed to get a fingertip to the striker's shot and knock it onto the post.
The final chance of the match fell to Jordan Allan. Garry Wood powered through three defenders and chipped a cross to Allan, but the striker could only head onto the post, the ball bouncing to safety.
