Montrose 2 Queen's Park 2

MONTROSE'S fight to avoid the Scottish League relegation playoff continued for at least another week as they picked up a point from their home encounter with promotion-chasing Queen's Park.
The home side were ahead at half time through PAUL WATSON, the midfielder lashing a shot into the net from the edge of the box after Jordan Allan and Scott Johnston forced visiting goalkeeper William Muir into an error. The ball fell to Johnston, whose cross was headed out by Vincent Berry, but only as far as Watson.
But Montrose went from cruising to crisis in the space of two second half minutes. Queen's Park's equaliser came through Montrose fullback ANDREW STEEVES, the defender sliding the ball into the empty net from Paul Woods' low ball across the box.
The visitors took the lead two minutes later, SHAUN ROONEY dropping to the ground and firing a low shot into the corner after Woods' initial shot had been blocked.
With 10 minutes remaining, Montrose snatched a point. A quick passing moving saw Ross Campbell release Jordan Allan, the striker's cross perfectly weighted to the back post for GARRY WOOD to volley into the net.
Montrose had been the better side in the first half, taking the game to the Glasgow amateurs. Allen came close to opening the scoring in the third minute, but his lob dropped over the crossbar with Muir out of position.
The young striker came close again in the 16th minute, but his half volley on the turn flew just wide of the post.
Queen's Park's first real chance came in the 19th minute, Darren Miller shooting high and wide from 30 yards out. A minute later, Woods was unlucky to see his low shot fizz wide of the post after a mazy run through the Montrose defence.
Garry Wood put in a hardworking shift throughout the afternoon, and he could have put Montrose in front in the 27th minute. A quick one-two with Campbell released the former Inverness striker, but he shot high and wide from the edge of the box.
He came close again in the 39th minute, beating two Queen's Park players in the corner, but blasting over with his shot.
The second half started with Queen's Park determined to find an equaliser, Miller shooting wide from the edge of the box.
Having gone behind, Montrose came back fighting, Wood shooting wide after a run through the heart of the Hampden side's defence.
At the other end, Queen's Park substitute Ciaran McElroy had a low shot tipped wide by Stuart McKenzie, the keeper called into action again moments later, producing a great save to keep a John Carter header out.
Jordan Allan was denied a goal with a tremendous save from Muir in the 72nd minute, the keeper flying to his right to palm a shot away from the top corner.
McKenzie was again called into action in the 77th minute, producing a great diving save to keep Paul Woods' shot out of the net after the midfielder's mazy run.
