» Jamie Winter
Jamie Winter (Midfielder)
Jamie joined Montrose in July 2011 from junior side Broughty Athletic. He started his career with Leeds United in 2003 but didn’t break into the first team. In the Christmas 2005 transfer window he moved to Aberdeen for whom he made 19 appearances for scoring once against Celtic in a 3 – 1 defeat. He spent the second half of 2005/06 season on loan to St Johnstone. After leaving Aberdeen in signed for Chesterfield in July 2007 making nearly 50 appearances in his two years at the club. After returning to his home city of Dundee at the end of his contract Jamie had an unsuccessful spell in the Highland League with Formartine United. Jamie joined Broughty Ahletic last season and scored 17 goals from midfield. It was this form that alerted him to Ray Farningham and after a successful pre season trail he joined Montrose on a one year contract. He scored on his debut against Raith Rovers at Links Park on 30th July.

In Conversation with Jamie Winter - December 2011

MIDFIELDER Jamie Winter has made quite an impact since joining Montrose in July this year.
Interested in football from a young age Winter used to tag along to watch his dad play for Forfar and St Johnstone. From there he played through his school until signing for Rangers at the age of 12.
However, he was not destined for Ibrox and it was Leeds United that he signed his first youth contract with. Winter said: "[Leeds] was an
unbelieveable experience, at the time I joined they were at their best and when I left they were at their worst.
"I was there for four years and met some great people and it was a great experience growing up.
"I never played for the first team but I was on the bench three times."
He added: "Looking back it was quite surreal."
His move away from Leeds United was a quick one as it happened during a break home at Christmas. He said: "I kept getting phone calls but it was awhile before I answered them - turns out it was to say that Leeds had accepted a bid from Aberdeen."
The move to Aberdeen brought him his first professional game and 19 appearances in the SPL including one goal which came against Celtic in a 3-1 defeat. He said: "I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Aberdeen. I played under Jimmy Calderwood and a lot of people think that we didn't get on but that wasn't the case.
"He was always honest - there were no airs and graces with him and I appreciated that.
"In hindsight I sometimes think I might have left Leeds too soon but I got some SPL performances with Aberdeen."
From Aberdeen, Winter spent two seasons with Chesterfield before a short spell in Norway. However, after being offered a job in Norway, Winter said that if he was going to work then he might as well go back home.
Once back in Scotland he fell out of football for a time before joining Broughty Athletic last season and scoring 17 goals from midfield.
It was this form at Broughty Athletic that alerted Montrose manager Ray Farningham to him. Winter said: "I know a lot of the Dundee lads from the club anyway and some had mentioned that I would be going up to train
with Montrose but I hadn't heard a thing. Then I got a phone call and went up for some pre-season training.
"It is a great set of lads at the club and it' good going back to the senior game from the juniors. It's where I want to be."
Of his first season at the club Winter said: "We've not really had a consistent run, we're good one week and not the other.
"When we've not been playing the best football we've won and then when we play well we lose - that's been the frustrating thing.
"We just need to get a bit of consistency and staying as close as we can to be in the playoffs and I think we have a good fighting chance of doing it.
"There are still a lot of games to go so fingers crossed we can do it."
Winter is certainly enjoying his time at the club so far. He said:
"There are some great characters in the team and there is no times that you're not looking forward to training - even when the weather is terrible.
"Being back in the game now I feel like I have a bit of a point to prove but as each week goes on I'm getting a little bit more confident and feel like I'm getting back into my stride.
"I'm not a flash player - I need everyone around me and I get that here."
