» Dougie Cameron

Dougie Cameron (Left Back)
Douglas joined Montrose in October 2010 after a spell in Australia playing for Sunshine George Cross. The 28 year old started his career with his home town team Dundee and made over 100 appearances for the Dark Blues in a three year period at Dens Park. He then went on to have three spells at Peterhead, a loan at Forfar Athletic and a two year spell at East Fife, where he was a team-mate of Steven Tweed as they won the third division title in 2007/08. Douglas can play at either left back, central or left midfield. His father Kenny was once the manager of Montrose during a successful spell in the 1970’s. He hasn’t missed a match since joining the club and signed a new contract in the summer.

Interview with dougie - match programme - september 2011

Dougie Cameron has become an ever-present feature in the Montrose squad since signing back in October last year.

The 28-year-old left back can also play central or left midfield and has proved to be an important additon to the Montrose ranks.

He began his career at Dundee full time from the age of about 17 to 21 where he made over 100 appearances.

From there he went on loan to Peterhead, a club he later signed for. During his time at Peterhead he was part of the side to win promotion from the third to the second division.

Then during his two year spell at East Fife he was part of the team who won the league in the 2007/08 season. From there it was back to Peterhead for a short time before Cameron took the great opportunity offered to him to play in Australia.

The move to Melborne came after a friend of his, who he had played with at East Fife, mentioned that the Sunshine George Cross manager was looking for a left back. Realising it was a great opportunity, Cameron went across at around Christmas time 2009.

His arrival at Montrose came through another friend, Chris Hegarty, who was still at Montrose at the time. Cameron spoke to then manager Steven Tweed and Ray Farningham who were happy for him to go to Montrose.

Since signing in October 2010 he has never missed a match and has gathered a fan-base within the Montrose support.

Like many at the club Cameron thinks that Montrose have had their ups and downs during the course of the season so far.

He said: “Obviously Farningham is an excellent manager and we have some good players.

“We've done really well in a few games but lost a few bad goals too which has been disappointing.”

But also like everyone at the club he is sure that Montrose still have plenty time to fix the situation and have a good league run.

He said: “If we have a good wee run and win five or six games in a row we'll be up at the top end of the table.

“The squad are more than capable and we have an excellent management team so fingers crossed we'll be pushing for promotion by the end of the season.”

It is this weekend's game that Cameron is most looking forward to, however, as Montrose prepare to face Peterhead at Links Park.

After spending three different spells at Peterhead in his career so far it would be expected that they are the side he is most looking forward to facing this season.

He said: “I'm really looking forward to facing Peterhead, I had some good times up there and looking forward to seeing everyone again.

“So this Saturday will be good, I've good a good few memories from my time up there.”

As for the long term future Cameron said: “We will wait and see, I know the manager and the players here and I enjoy it at Montrose so we'll see what happens at the end of my contract.”
