sandy wood (Goalkeeper)
Local lad, Sandy returned to Links Park in the summer of 2010 for a third spell with the club and made his first start in a CIS Cup match at Dens Park against Dundee. He previously played for the club during season 2005/06 when he was on loan from Celtic by previous manager Eddie Wolecki. After his release by Celtic Sandy joined Forfar Athletic where he spent two seasons picking up a few end of season awards. He started his career with Stonehaven youth before being spotted by Aberdeen. After being released by the Dons he was quickly signed up by Montrose in 2003. His form in the Montrose U/18 side saw him move to Celtic that same year for a four-figure fee. After leaving Station Park at the end of season 2007/08 he had a spell out of the game due to a knee injury but returned to play for Glenrothes and Tayport in 2009/10 from where he was signed by former manager Steven Tweed. Ended the last season as number one choice and has made over thirty five appearances for the club. Age 25.


JOHN GIBSON (Goalkeeper)
John joined Montrose on loan from Dundee in January in time to make his debut in a 1 – 1 draw with Rangers at Ibrox Stadium on 26th January. Spent the first part of the season on loan to Elgin City and in fact played twice against Montrose. John has who started his career with Dundee United has also had spells on loan to Forfar Athletic, Sligo Rovers and Elgin City. Glasgow based 24 year old goalkeeper. Great shot stopper

 

Alan Campbell (Centre half)
Alan moved to Links Park in the summer of 2009 from Carnoustie Panmure. He picked up the Directors Player of the Year and Players Player of the Year trophies in season 2009/10 and was again Directors Player of the Year in 2010/11. He was spotted playing junior football with Scone Thistle and was quickly snapped up by Arbroath manager John McGlashan spent two seasons with Arbroath having a couple of loan spells with Carnoustie Panmure. After being released by Arbroath he joined Carnoustie in April 2009. Strong and powerful central defender who can also play at right and left back. Alan made his 100th Montrose appearance in the 3 – 1 victory over East Stirling on April 21st 2012 and scored in the final match of the season against Clyde, his sixth goal for the club. Age 26.


STEPHEN McNALLY (Right Back)
Stephen was signed after two matches as a trialist against Stranraer and East Stirlingshire in January 2010. He made his debut as a signed player in the 2 – 0 win at Berwick Rangers on January 30th and was in the side who played Hibernian the following week. The 27 year old was Forfar Athletics’ longest serving player joining in February 2007 from Peterhead after a six-year spell with Dundee. Was an ever present after signing and played in 20 matches scoring once against Annan Athletic in April 2010. Has well as playing in defence Stephen has also turned out with effect as a midfielder for Montrose. Stephen who signed a new contract in the summer has made over one hundred appearances for the club. Scored twice this season.



PAUL LUNAN (Centre Half)
28 year old Paul joined Montrose in July 2011 from junior side Dundee Violet after spending a spell out of the senior game due to work commitments. Lunan was spotted playing for West End Boys in Dundee by then Forfar Athletic youth manager Gordon Wallace. He established himself in the Forfar Athletic first team under Neil Cooper and made his debut in September 2001. A versatile player he can play almost anywhere across the back or in midfield. He was a favourite with the Forfar fans making over 170 appearances scoring twenty goals before moving to Arbroath in 2008. He rejoined Forfar Athletic last summer before his move to Dundee Violet. Has moved into a central defensive role at Links Park but can also play at right back and in midfield.


PHIL McGUIRE (Centre half)
Phil started his career with Aberdeen where he made over 200 appearances. He joined Aberdeen in 1996 and came through the ranks into the first team. Between 2001 and 2003 he was voted into the SPL Team of the Year. During his Aberdeen spell McGuire was capped by Scotland at U21S level and B level and was involved in several full international squads under Berti Vogts. He joined Doncaster Rovers in July 2005 for a free transfer. After one season in England, he returned to Scotland in July 2006, signing for Dunfermline Athletic, who paid a 6 figure fee to take him back. McGuire helped Dunfermline reach the Scottish cup final in which they lost to Glasgow Celtic. On 31 August 2007, he signed for Inverness Caledonian Thistle on loan and became one of the first players to move back up the divisions on a loan agreement until 13 January. After the loan spell expired, McGuire signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Inverness after Caley Thistle and the Pars agreed a fee. After leaving Caledonian Thistle Phil turned down several clubs in Britain as he was looking to move abroad and explore different options with coaching and options outside football. He almost joined New York Red Bulls in the American MLS (Major League Soccer) as a coach but decided it was the wrong time in September 2009 he signed for Formartine United. He left Formartine United at the end of January 2010. He finished off the season with Arbroath FC. McGuire headed out to Cyprus with AEK Larnaca and was offered a 2 year deal but after a short period of time returned to the UK Due to financial problems with the club. He then joined Lochee United last season before joining the Gable Endies in August 2012.



PAUL WATSON (Left back)
Paul rejoined Montrose in July 2012 from St Andrews United for his third spell at Links Park. His first two spells came on loan from firstly Arbroath in season 2009/10 and then from Forfar Athletic the following season. After his first spell at Links Park, Paul was sold by Arbroath to Forfar Athletic but after being released at the end of the 10/11 he joined Peterhead. Had a spell with St Andrews United before his move to Links Park in the summer. Scored in the opening four matches of the season.







SCOTT GORDON (Left back)
18 year old defender who was part of the Montrose Under 19 side last season and as been part of the first team squad this season. Has been listed as a substitute on a number of occasions but has yet to make his debut. Currently on loan to Dundee East Craigie.










Jonathan crawford (Midfield)
21 year old versatile player who joined Montrose in September 2010 after a successful trial match against Albion Rovers. Jonathan who can play at right back, centre half or midfield was released by Aberdeen in the summer of 2010. He made his Aberdeen debut in season 2009/10 as a substitute against Hamilton Accies on August 22nd before going out on loan to Peterhead. Whilst at Pittodrie Jonathan was called in the Scotland Under 19 squad that included Danny Wilson now of Liverpool, John Fleck and David Wotherspoon (Hibernian). Jonathan who signed a new one year contract in the summer is currently playing in central defence.



TERRY MASSON (Midfield)
Now in his third season at Links Park, Terry joined Montrose in June 2010 from junior side Carnoustie Panmure. He played for both Dundee and Dundee United before the 21 year old moved to his home town side Arbroath. He spent two seasons at Gayfield making 4 starts and 16 substitute appearances before moving to Carnoustie Panmure. Brechin City brought Masson on board for the final stages of season 2009/10 and Masson was regular off the bench as the Glebe Park side reached the Play-Off Final. Terry picked up a knee injury on his Montrose debut at Dens Park against Dundee in August 2010 and didn’t play again until January 2011. Has made over fifty appearances for Montrose scoring a number of important goals.


CRAIG McLEISH (Midfield)
Craig was signed in July from Stirling Albion. He started his career with Falkirk and had a loan spell with Dumbarton before his move to Stirling Albion last summer. Skillful left sided player who also Montrose’s dead ball specialist.










RICKY McINTOSH (Midfield)
Ricky joined Montrose in August on loan from St Johnstone for the season and made his debut against Peterhead on September 1st. Ricky progressed through the Saints youth system, he went full time in the summer of 2009 and impressed many with his form in the Under 19s. He performed well in the Under 19s and skirted with first team action, being listed on the substitutes bench in the autumn of 2010 while a spell at a training camp with the Scotland Under 19s also gave reward for a good season. In March 2011 it was announced that Ricky had agreed to stay with the club for 2011/2012 season and a similar one year deal followed for 2012/13. The left sided defender and midfielder has been a long term target of both manager Stuart Garden and the man he replaced Ray Farningham. Hasn’t missed a match since his loan spell started.



DAVID GRAY (Midfield)
David was signed in July after his release from Dumbarton in the summer. The right sided midfielder has had a varied career so far. It started with Dundee United and he has also spent time with Kilmarnock, KIlbirnie Ladeside, Dumbarton and Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. He then moved to the USA and since his return has played for Airdrie and Dumbarton. Played a successful trial for Montrose against Inverurie Loco Works in the Ramsdens Cup before signing. His goal against Rangers at Links Park in December was voted the SFL Goal of the Month.






JAMIE WINTER (Midfield)
Jamie joined Montrose in July 2011 from junior side Broughty Athletic and hit 12 goals from midfield in a successful first season at the club. Picked up the Directors Player of the Year award. He started his career with Leeds United in 2003 but didn’t break into the first team. In the Christmas 2005 transfer window he moved to Aberdeen for whom he made 19 appearances for scoring once against Celtic in a 3 – 1 defeat. He spent the second half of 2005/06 season on loan to St Johnstone. After leaving Aberdeen in signed for Chesterfield in July 2007 making nearly 50 appearances in his two years at the club. After returning to his home city of Dundee at the end of his contract Jamie had a spell in the Highland League with Formartine United. Jamie joined Broughty Athletic for season 2010/11 and scored 17 goals from midfield. It was this form that alerted him to Ray Farningham and after a successful pre season trail he joined Montrose on a one year contract. He scored on his debut against Raith Rovers at Links Park on 30th July. Age 26.



LLOYD YOUNG (Midfield)
Lloyd joined Montrose in early December 2011 on an emergency loan from East Fife until 7th January. 25 year old Lloyd can play anywhere in midfield joined the Fifers in 2007 from Tayport Juniors after helping the junior side to victory in the Scottish Junior Cup Final. He started his career with Dundee Violet before stepping up to senior football with Raith Rovers. Lloyd hasn’t played in the East Fife since late August and in fact started this season scoring for John Robertson’s side in the 6 – 1 Challenge Cup victory over Montrose at Links Park in late July. Made his Montrose debut against Alloa Athletic at the start of December 2011. Had scored eight times from his midfield position by the end of the year before spending a month in Australia.




Ross McCord (Midfield)
Ross joined Montrose from Alloa Athletic on an emergency temporary transfer at the start of February 2013. The twenty two year old has joined Montrose until the end of the season. Ross spent season 2010/11 on loan at Links Park from Dundee United before moving to Alloa Athletic the following season and was part of the Recreation Park side who won the third division championship last season. He will be remembered at Links Park for some spectacular goals including two in the 8 - 1 victory over Clyde in September 2010. He made his return in Montrose colours as a substitute against East Stirlingshire at the start of February. His brother Ryan is on the books of Alloa Athletic


Garry wood (Forward)
Garry returned to Links Park for a second spell in January 2012 after being released by Ross County. After a successful end to the season Garry signed a new contract keeping him at Links Park for a further season. He originally joined Montrose in season 2007/08 on loan from Inverness Caledonian Thistle scoring eleven times. He then returned to Inverness and spent a season playing in the Premier League scoring against Celtic. Garry joined Ross County at the start of season 2009/10 and played against Montrose in the Challenge Cup. He had a spell on loan to Peterhead last season before his move to Montrose. A well liked player around the club Garry who is a big powerful striker teamed up well alongside Martin Boyle in attack and will be looking to continue his form into the new season. Started his career with Elgin City.


LEIGHTON McINTOSH (Forward)
Leighton joined Montrose on loan from Dundee in August as part of the deal that took Martin Boyle to Dens Park. Leighton was one of the youngsters who was forced to step up into the Dundee first team quicker than expected after the club's administration in 2010. By the end of the season the striker had played a huge part in Dundee's amazing run to overcome a 25 point deduction and remain in the 1st division. After Dundee went into administration Leighton became a regular feature on the bench before finally making his first team debut as a late sub against Morton in Dundee's 1-0 victory. After such a good end to the season he was rewarded with a call up to the Scotland under 19s but unfortunately injury meant he could not travel with the squad. He got another chance with the Scotland set up early in the new season, and scored his first international goal as the under 19s beat Wales in a UEFA Championship qualifier. In the summer of 2011, he showed his commitment to Dundee by signing a new three year deal with the club.In 2011/12 Leighton feature over twenty times, scoring his only goal of the season against Ayr United. This season Leighton started Dundee’s first match of the season against Peterhead in the League Cup was an unused sub in the away draw at Kilmarnock before coming on as a substitute in the 2 – 0 home defeat against St Mirren on August 18th.



martin boyle (Forward)
Martin has returned to Montrose on loan from Premier League Dundee until the end of the season after leaving the club in August to move to Dens Park for an undisclosed fee. 19 year old Martin had a memorable first full season at Montrose last season finding the net 22 times in the league to pick the Scottish Football League Gingerboot award for finishing the top goalscorer in all three leagues. He played started all 41 matches Montrose played during the season and capped his final appearance of the season scoring a hat trick in a 5 – 0 win over Clyde. He then Martin went on to pick up six end of season his trophy hall included – Fans Favourite, Junior Fans Favourite, Top goalscorer, Players Player of the Year, Ever present player and finally the Stan Thornton Memorial trophy.
A Scottish Schoolboy internationalist Martin made his debut for Montrose as a substitute at Easter Road against Hibernian in January 2009 whilst aged only 16. In season 2009/10 he played for Scotland Schoolboys against Republic of Ireland, Wales, Ireland and England. Scoring the Scotland goal in the 4 – 1 defeat against England at Carlisle in a match televised by Sky. He once scored six times in an Under 19 fixture against Airdrie United in 2010. He has a great turn of pace and skill and is deadly in the penalty box. Signed a professional contract in August 2010 and scored his first goal for the first team in a 8 – 1 victory over Clyde in September 2010. Since his return in January he has scored six times, including four in the 5 – 1 victory over Annan Athletic in late February.

SCOTT MORTON (Forward)
Was released by Airdrie United in August 2012 and after a couple of successful trial matches against Annan Athletic and East Stirlingshire he joined Montrose. Scott scored on his full debut for the club in a 3 – 1 away victory over Stirling Albion. The 20-year-old started his career at Queen’s Park before joining the Diamonds and he made an instant impact for then when he scored on his debut against Dumbarton in February 2011. Morton went on to net another four goals in 7 starts and 13 substitute appearances for Jimmy Boyle’s side before agreeing to leave the club despite having a contract that ran until December 2013.




Scott Johnston (Forward)
After a successful trial match in the pre season victory over Stenhousemuir, Dundee based striker Scott was snapped up by manager Ray Farningham in July 2011. Scott had spent the previous two seasons with East Stirlingshire and was a virtual ever present. He started his career with Dundee FC at youth level before joining junior side Forfar West End where he came to the attention of Shire manager Jim McNally. Scott turned down fresh terms with East Stirlingshire to join Montrose. Can also play in midfield if required. Scott had an excellent first season at the club where his never say die attitude as well as great link up play saw him become a firm favourite with the Links Park faithful.





 

COACHING STAFF

STUART GARDEN (Manager)
Stuart who was assistant at the club last season was appointment the club’s new manager in May when Ray Farningham departed Links Park to take up a role as Dundee assistant manager. Stuart has had a lengthy career as a goalkeeper with Dundee United Brechin City then Forfar Athletic before trying his luck in England with Notts County. Returned to Scotland to play with Ross County before retiring with a knee injury in September 2006. Went on to coach at Inverness Caledonian Thistle and when Craig Brewster was sacked in January 2009 he had a spell as interim manager before his move to Montrose in summer 2010. Age 40.





LEE WILKIE (Assistant Manager)
Former Scotland internationalist Lee was appointed Montrose assistant manager in June 2012 after a spell as a football agent. 32 year old Lee spent the majority of his playing career with Dundee and during his time at Dens Park he had short loan spells in England with Plymouth Argyle and Notts County plus nine games with Falkirk. Between 2002 and 2003 he won 11 international caps for Scotland the last coming in the 6 – 0 defeat against the Netherlands in November 2003. Wilkie suffered serious anterior cruciate ligament injuries in January 2004 and in April 2005 but continued to play on after building up the muscles to compensate for the lack of ligament. He joined Dundee United in 2006 and after a spell with Ross County, he led the team out as captain in the 2008 Scottish League Cup Final. He signed a new three year contract with United in 2009 but announced his retirement in April 2010 due to sustained knee problems. Last season as well as being an agent he also wrote for the Dundee Evening Telegraph and coached the Dundee Under 19 side. During his career he made over 200 appearances.



GEORGE SHIELDS (First Team Coach)
As well as being first team coach George is also head of youth development at Links Park. Recently George has been in charge of junior side Dundee Violet. George started his career at Dundee United as a youth. He then signed for Dundee 1973/74 had short spells with Arbroath and Forfar Athletic before playing for various junior teams with Dundee St Josephs being the most successful as player when he was capped for Scotland juniors. George then managed the Joey’s to a clean sweep of domestic honours in the 1997/98 season. He coached youths at Dundee United, Dundee and he then became Head of Youth and first team coach at Brechin City winning the league with Dick and Ian Campbell. George then managed Dundee Violet before joining Montrose as Head of Youth and first team coach.



SCOTT McCREADIE (Physio)
Scott is a fully qualified physio who had experience with Carnoustie YM and then Carnoustie Panmure JFC. He is a full time physiotherapist at Arbroath Infirmary as well as his job at Links Park.
