The doubled their lead in farcical fashion in the 27th minute. Andrews comfortably held the ball from an East Fife attack then, thinking that he was alone in his box, dropped the ball at his feet. Ogelby, who had been standing behind the goalkeeper, stole the ball from his feet and ran it into the empty net.
The impressive Ryan Wallace added a third three minutes later, reacting first to connect with a quickly-taken free kick and send a low shot across Andrews and in off the post.
East Fife’s fourth arrived in the 53rd minute when Ogelby controlled a long kick out from goalkeeper Mark Ridgers and shot into the bottom corner.
Andrews’ debut to forget took a further turn for the worse in the 63rd minute when he was penalised for a trip on Craig Johnstone. Ogelby stepped up and sent Andrews the wrong way from the spot to complete his hat-trick.
Three minutes later and the visitors had their sixth and final goal, substitute Lloyd Young slamming a long-range strike in off the post.
Montrose scored a consolation goal in the 76th minute, David Dimilta laying the ball off to Steven McPhee, the youngster powering an unstoppable strike into the top corner from the edge of the box.
Aside from the goals, chances were created frequently by both sides, with Andrews in particular having a busy afternoon. Twice in the first five minutes, the goalkeeper was called into action and did well to tip the ball over the bar.
Chances also came to the Montrose players, Dougie Cameron having a low shot held in the 20th minute.
Ryan Wallace came close in the 23rd minute, having a shot blocked by Andrews before Alan Campbell hacked the ball to safety.
Montrose’s best chance of the first half came in stoppage time when Dimilta had a low shot blocked after a good run into the box. They also started the second half on the front foot, McPhee shooting over after beating three defenders.
With Montrose four goals down, East Fife could have added several in quick succession, Wallace sending a half volley over the bar from 17 yards and Ogelby poking the ball past Andrews only to see it roll wide.
Bobby Linn could have scored his second in the 74th minute, having a 40-yard free kick tipped onto the post by Andrews.
