Dundee United XI 0 Montrose 2
Montrose FC continued their build up to the new season with victory over a youthful Dundee United side at their training base in St Andrews last Tuesday.
Manager Ray Farningham again changed about his line up as he looked to get every player match fit. Back into the side after injury came new signing David McGowan and he lined up in a three man attack with Scott Johnston and Sean Pierce.
The Gable Endies opened the scoring in the 13th minute when trialist Jamie Winter sprayed a pass wide to Dougie Cameron on the left and his first time cross was met on the edge of the area by DAVID McGOWAN who drove the ball home into the corner of the net.
Montrose added a second goal just short of the half hour mark when Sean Pierce drove through the home defence and slipped a pass through to McGOWAN who this time rounded keeper McCallum to score.
At half time Montrose took off Wood, Smart, Crawford and Johnston and on in their place came trialist keeper Kyle Allison, McNally, Dimilta and Boyle.
It didn’t take Montrose long to score again when in the 47th minute SEAN CRIGHTON volleyed home a near post corner from Winter.
Montrose brought on their final substitute in the 69th minute when Steven McPhee replaced Winter.
The Gable Endies went close again through a twenty yard effort from Sean Pierce smacked off the post and rebounded into the arms of McCallum.
Martin Boyle also should have scored twice for Montrose but was denied by the home keeper.
Dundee United went close on a couple of occasions but keeper Allison pulled off two great saves.
Montrose suffered a blow late in the match when new signing Steven McPhee was forced off with a knee injury.
MONTROSE – Wood (trialist), Crighton, Cameron, Campbell, Smart (McNally), trialist (McPhee), Masson, Crawford (Dimilta), Pierce, Johnston (Boyle), McGowan.
