IRN BRU Scottish Football League
Division Three
Saturday 13th February 2010
Montrose 1 Queen's Park 2

Montrose’s search for a first home league win of the season continued, Queen’s Park coming from behind to take all three points back to Hampden.
The home side had reason to be feel aggrieved though, with striker Paul Tosh seeing two legitimate goals incorrectly ruled out by the offside flag.
It was tough to take for the home side, who had taken the lead in the first half when visiting goalkeeper Mark McGeown was unable to hold a John Gemmell shot, Tosh tapping in the rebound.
Queen’s Park equalised shortly after the break, Montrose’s defenders failing to deal with a ball that bounced into the box, allowing David Murray to lob the ball over Andrew McNeil. They wrapped up all three points with 20 minutes remaining, Montrose unable to clear from a Barry Douglas corner and Anthony Quinn shooting home from inside the box.
Montrose had started the brighter of the two sides, testing Queen’s Park throughout the early stages. An Aaron Sinclair corner as early as the second minute fell to Sean Crighton in the box, his first shot was blocked and his second scooped over the crossbar.
John Gemmell also tried his luck early on, thumping a free kick wide of the target from 25 yards out. The best chance of the early stages fell to Chris Hegarty in the eighth minute, the defender shooting wide from Sean Fleming’s cut back to the edge of the box.
Aaron Sinclair could have put Montrose ahead after 10 minutes, but volleyed wide from the edge of the box.
Having survived these early threats, Queen’s Park managed to assert themselves more often as the first half wore on, and clear-cut chances were few and far between during its remainder.
Having taken the lead nine minutes before the break, Montrose sought to kill the game off before the break. Stephen McNally almost scored with an opportunistic effort in the 39th minute. Spotting McGeown out of the position, the fullback smashed a free kick goalward from 45 yards out, wide on the right win. Scrambling furiously, McGeown succeeded in turning the ball wide of the post.
The second half started with Queen’s Park on the attack, Michael Daly flicking a header narrowly wide from a Douglas corner.
Montrose’s let-off was brief though, Murray levelling for the Glasgow side shortly afterwards.
Substitute Daryl Nicol kept Montrose in the game five minutes later, heading off the line with McNeil beaten.
Tosh was booked in controversial circumstances when his goal was disallowed in the 58th minute. The striker appeared to be onside when the ball was played through to him, and his protestations earned him a yellow card.
To his credit, Tosh continued to look for a second goal, having a shot held at the near post in the 64th minute.
Queen’s Park took the lead in the 69th minute, with Montrose’s defenders unable to clear adequately from a Douglas corner.
It became apparent in the 73rd minute that the afternoon would not end in Montrose’s favour when Tosh had a second goal disallowed for offside, despite having run onto the ball from an onside position before finishing with aplomb.
The dying minutes saw Montrose continue to push, although McNeil had to be lively to save at the feet of Daly.
