montrose 2 annan athletic 0 (23/08/14)
Montrose Football Club beat Annan Athletic for the second time in a row for the first time since the South of Scotland side’s admission to the Scottish Football League as they made it two wins out of two in the league.
After an opening day victory over East Stirlingshire, Montrose were unable to play last weekend at Clyde due to the match being postponed due to a live TV match involving Rangers. Montrose however showed that the layoff hadn’t harmed them after they brushed aside Annan Athletic with an impressive first half showing.
The Gable Endies took a while to find the target but once they did through Paul Harkins there was only going to be one winner. The second half failed to live up to the first half but by then Montrose were in control.
George Shields side must look to keep this form going on Saturday when they face a derby clash with Arbroath at Gayfield Park. Arbroath currently top the table after winning their opening three matches.

Links Park Community Trust  (18/08/14)
Last academic year, Links Park Community Trust launched a series of unique football-themed educational programmes which were delivered free of charge to local schools.
The overwhelming success of the programmes led to LPCT being nominated for an award a an 'Angus Council Partnership Recognition Event' at which Links Park Community Trust pipped over 100 other businesses and organisations to the prestigious 'Excellence Award'.
Each of the award-winning projects, the 'Links Park Health Trail’ 'Links Park Numeracy Trail' 'Links Park Literacy Trail' and the 'Links Park Science Trail' take pupils on an exploration of Links Park Stadium, the home of Montrose Football Club, where they are challenged to undertake a range of fun and inspiring tasks.
In our innovative 'Literacy Trail' for example, participants visit the board room and take on the role of both the ‘new signing’ and the ‘sports reporter’ as they participate in our extremely popular ‘Press Conference’ workshop. Pitch-side, youngsters assume the role of the ‘Match Commentator’ – demonstrating enthusiasm and clear expression as they describe events on the field to the watching/listening audience. In addition to such activities, our ‘Question of Sport’ game show also provides a fun, challenging context for pupils to apply their observation, reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, as they also investigate the important role Literacy/Language plays in the everyday running of a Professional Football Club.
For more information on this, and our other programmes visit www.linksparkct.org.uk
On behalf of the Board of Directors I am pleased to welcome Barry O'Neill, Investment Director, Carbon Financial Partners to the board.
Barry, who has been a member of the WJ Lounge, is a long standing Montrose Football Club fan and former Supporters’ Club chairman. We are delighted he has agreed to join the board with immediate effect.

WEBSTER BACK (18/08/14)
Graham Webster was available once again for selection last Saturday after serving his automatic one game ban against Falkirk in the league cup. He still has a further one match ban to serve in next season’s Challenge. Jonathan Crawford who is currently out injured was in fact banned for last Saturday's match after picking up a booking in the final league game of last season against East Stirlingshire.
montrose 4 east stirlingshire 1 (10/08/14)
Montrose Football Club got the new season off to a great start when they defeated East Stirlingshire at Links Park on Saturday in their opening League 2 fixture.
After a slow start to the match Montrose got the first goal just after the half hour mark through centre half Alan Campbell and this seemed to settle George Shields men and after that there was going to be only one winner.
Three second half goals saw to that with the only disappointment being the red card dished out to midfielder Ross McCord for two yellow cards in the space of two minutes.
Unfortunately due to the postponement of their league match against Clyde by the SPFL to allow BBC Alba to show Rangers v Clyde in the Petrofac Cup, Montrose won’t be able to follow up this result with a good performance at Brooadwood on Saturday.

clyde match postponed (09/08/14)
The league match at Clyde on Saturday 16th August has been postponed by the SPFL to allow BBC Alba to show Rangers v Clyde in the Petrofac Cup.
Life long Montrose fan Steve Doyle is currently writing a series of programme articles which will be reproduced on the Montrose FC website. The series looks season by season at the results of known games played by Montrose FC since the present football club was founded in October 1879.
Steve is well known among Montrose fans as the author of 'The Journey So Far' which provides an extremely comprehensive results history of Montrose Football Club right back to when the club began playing competitive football in 1891.

After their red cards in the Peterhead match both Graham Webster and captain Garry Wood were hit by suspensions. Graham was suspended forlast Saturday's game against Falkirk and also our next match in the Petrofac Training Cup next season while Wood is out of our next match in the Petrofac Training Cup also. SPFL AGM (07/08/14)
The SPFL recently held its second Annual General Meeting (AGM) after which it confirmed the representatives who will serve on its Board for the coming year, as voted for by member clubs. During the AGM: Eric Riley (Celtic FC), Duncan Fraser (Aberdeen FC) and Stephen Thompson (Dundee United FC) were elected to represent the SPFL Premiership.  Eric Drysdale (Raith Rovers FC) and Mike Mulraney (Alloa Athletic FC) were elected to represent the SPFL Championship and Ken Ferguson (Brechin City FC) was elected to represent SPFL League 1 and League 2. The Board is completed by SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster and chairman Ralph Topping. Bill Darroch (Stenhousemuir FC) and Les Gray (Hamilton Academical FC) retire after serving on the previous SPFL Board. Neil Doncaster, SPFL chief executive, said: “On behalf of the SPFL Board we’d like to welcome Eric Drysdale and Ken Ferguson, as elected by member clubs, both of whom we are confident will make valuable contributions for the overall good of the game.
It was great to see former Montrose loan signing Craig Forsyth make his Scotland debut in the May friendly against Nigeria at Craven Cottage. Another former Montrose loan signing Cammy Bell (pictured), the Rangers keeper was also part of the Scotland squad that night. It is a rare thing to see two former Gable Endies part of a Scotland squad but it was certainly a nice piece of history for the club.
Bell of course had a four game loan spell whilst on the books of Kilmarnock in season 2006/07 his last match of that spell ended with him being stretchered off with a knee injury after saving a penalty against Queen’s Park.
After leaving Links Park in January for Arbroath Sandy Wood has now left Gayfield and has teamed up with John Sheran the new manager at Allan Park fresh from his induction into the Montrose FC Hall of Fame in March. Ex Gable Endie Darryn Kelly and Daryl Nicol who is back in football after three years out have also moved to Cove.

Round One

Forfar Athletic v Brechin City, Dundee v St. Johnstone, Arbroath v Montrose

Semi Finals

Arbroath or Montrose v Dundee Utd
Forfar or Brechin v Dundee or St. Johnstone

Ties to be played before 30 September.
new signings (06/08/14)
Montrose have signed former Elgin City midfielder Paul Harkins while defender Declan O’Kane has moved on loan from Dunfermline until Christmas. 25 year old Harkins has spent the last two seasons with Elgin City after moving from Queen’s Park. Harkins made his debut as a substitute against Falkirk in the League Cup whilst O’Kane was an unused substitute.
Manager George Shields said: “Paul has impressed me when I have seen him in the past as he is a very good footballer.
“Dunfermline are very keen for Declan to get first-team football and we are pleased they see Montrose as a good venue for that to happen.”

montrose 1 falkirk 3 (04/08/14)
Montrose Football Club were knocked out of the League Cup at the hands of Championship side Falkirk at Links Park on Saturday.
In the sides first meeting in six years it was Montrose who shocked their opponents by taking a 25th minute lead through captain Garry Wood but the visitors fought back to win the tie with the final sealing goal only arriving with two minutes remaining.
Montrose can be proud of their efforts in a vastly improved performance on the previous weeks match against Peterhead.
They must now look to take this form into the their first league match of the season at home to East Stirlingshire on Saturday.
